If you are driving to Keila from Tallinn, choose Ülesõidu Street to cross the railway. Then turn left to Jõe Street. Turn left again in the end of Jõe Street. Cross the small river bridge and drive straight until the end of Linnuse Street where you will see the museum.

If you are arriving from Pärnu or Haapsalu, brown-white and blue-white museum signs on Tallinn-Haapsalu road will guide you until the river bridge. After crossing the bridge, follow Linnuse Street until you reach the museum.

About us

Harju County Museum was officially founded on the 30th of August 1988, but actual work began a year later. Since the beginning, the museum has been situated in the main building the 19th century Keila manor in the middle of the Keila River Island Park. Keila manor was founded already in the 14th century and the ruins of its medieval manor house are located in the park in close proximity to the main building.

In addition to the main building in Keila, the museum also comprises the Amandus Adamson Studio Museum in Paldiski. Amandus Adamson Studio Museum is located in the summer studio of sculptor Amandus Adamson and was opened in year 2010. It has a permanent exhibition about his life and work and hosts temporary exhibitions of modern artists.

Harju County Museum collects, researches and mediates cultural heritage of Harju County in a close co-operation with other museums, organisations and local community. We curate exhibitions, publish books and organise educational events and programs for both adults and children.

The museum´s collections include historical, archaeology, archive, art, photo, geological and audio-video collection, with the photo collection being the largest with 7398 items. We still actively collect documents, photos and items that are related to Harju County. If you have any material that you think might be of interest to the museum please contact us.

Our permanent exhibition is titled Life in the Harju County andwe regularly change our temporary exhibitions. Our libraries, collections and archives are open for researchers. There is also a nostalgic separate play-room for children.

Our most recent endeavour is Harju County Folk Clothes Advisory Chamber, which was founded in collaboration with the Estonian Folk Art and Craft Union and NGO Rahvarõivas in 2017. The chamber holds regular counselling sessions with professional teachers and craft samples from different parishes of Harju County.
